NCAA Football 2010 reviews are showing how excited users are to finally have the video game. The NCAA Football 2010 release date is officially slated for Tuesday, July 14, 2009, but those who already have received copies of the NCAA Football 2010 game are speaking of the game in positive notes. NCAA Football 2010 previews had already created a lot of buzz for the new EA Sports football game, but with the release of NCAA Football 2010 finally upon us, it is just going to create even more positive buzz about one of the most highly anticipated games of the summer.

Some of the familiar attributes are again going to be in NCAA Football 2010, including the great interface and setup, but also returns a few of the slight downsides to a computer game. According to a review of the PS3 version of NCAA Football 2010, the Game Zone web-site felt that the graphics were one of the best features of NCAA Football 2010. Their NCAA Football 2010 review states that, “the hitting and tackling are handled exceptionally well. There are some hits that will make you cringe.” That's high praise for a football game, and shows how far some of these console games have come from the days where Nintendo controllers only had A, B, and the directional keypad.

One of the best features of NCAA Football 2010 looks to be the multiplayer functionality, and though many of the review sites were unable to play this mode online yet, it seems to be one of the big selling points for a game franchise that has already been extremely popular for years. With the multiplayer online capabilities, it will give people the ability to take on a school (franchise) and control them in an online season setting where they can put their team up against the best in the country. The online feature has been a big shift for many of the game companies, and will be just as exciting this season with versions like the Xbox 360 Live.

NCAA Football 2010 will be available on Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, and PSP, and will provide a great way to get deeply entrenched with a new season of college football. Some of the players may not be as recognizable as in the NFL Madden franchise, but that makes it even more exciting to create players and work their way through some exciting game play. NCAA Football 2010 isn't going to be a game-changer in the realm of console football, but this update on the franchise is looking to be the latest (and greatest) chapter to come along so far.

Game Zone Review of NCAA Football 2010

By Ryan of The Sportmeisters

The NCAA postseason kicks off Dec. 19, with 33 games being played in a three week span. Seniors will get their last hurrah, and teams will attempt to end their season on the winning side, in the hopes of improving recruiting that follows afterwords.

The Sportmeisters will preview each of the 33 games that lie ahead, and provide our predictions as well. Let’s get to it!

Holiday Bowl, Dec. 30, 8:00 PM, San Diego, CA

No. 20 Arizona (8-4) vs. No. 22 Nebraska (9-4)

About Arizona : Arizona never found complete consistency, starting off 4-2 before winning three, then losing two, and winning two to finish 8-4.

The Wildcats are a middle of the pack team offensively, finishing in the top 50 in all major categories. Sophomore QB Nick Foles took over the starter role midway through the season, and hasn’t let it go. He has thrown for 2437 and 19 touchdowns. Sophomore WR Juron Criner is his top target, with 43 catches for 579 yards and nine touchdowns.

Sophomore RB Keola Antolin and Junior RB Nic Grigsby (who is expected to play despite missing the last two games) have combined for 1128 rushing yards and nine touchdowns.

Arizona finds more success stopping the run defensively, 22nd in NCAA FBS with 111.92 yards a game. They are 21st overall in defense, with opponents averaging 315.83 yards a game. Junior DL Ricky Elmore leads a defense that averages 2.83 sacks a game (13th in NCAA FBS). He has 10.5 himself, to go along with 43 tackles (11.5 for loss).

Sophomore DB Trevin Wade has 66 tackles and five interceptions, including one for a touchdown. Arizona isn’t a dominating team, but they know how to methodically beat their opponents.

About Nebraska : The Cornhuskers have been trying to get back to dominance since their run of championships in the 90s. They started off 2009 winning four of five, and if not for a last second touchdown, would have been 5-0. They fell flat, losing two in a row, before a five game winning streak earned them the Big 12 North Championship.

Another last-second score kept them from BCS lore, but they still earn a bowl shot and a chance at 10 wins.

Nebraska’s offense is horrific, which is shocking considering the Big 12 has been an offensive conference as of late. They finished 102nd out of 120 teams in total offense (317.15 yards per game). A big chunk of that was a lack of a passing game (175.92 yards per game) which was 101st in NCAA FBS.

The lone offensive bright spot was Junior RB Roy Helu Jr., who rushed for 1139 yards and ten touchdowns. Junior WR Niles Paul’s 673 receiving yards were twice as much as anyone else on Nebraska.

The Cornhuskers earned their victories thanks to a top ten defense. Second overall in points given up (11.23 per game) and ninth in total defense (284.54 yards per game), it was defense that truly won games for Nebraska. Of course, when one mentions Nebraska Cornhusker defense, Senior DL Ndamukong Suh comes to mind first and foremost.

The Heisman trophy finalist had 82 tackles (19.5 for loss), 12 sacks, and an interception. He even blocked three kicks for the Cornhuskers.

Sophomore DL Jared Crick had 9.5 sacks, part of a squad that was third in NCAA FBS in sacks per game (3.23). Senior DB Matt O’Hanlon led the secondary with 64 tackles, two sacks, five interceptions (one for touchdown), and a forced fumble. Simply put, Nebraska is all defense, all the time.

The Matchup : Arizona is 6-7-1 in bowl games. This is their second straight year of being in bowl game, and they won their 2008 matchup against BYU in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Nebraska is 23-22 in bowl games. After a run of 35 straight bowl appearances was snapped, they are trying to get back to that tradition. This is their second straight game, after winning their 2008 Gator Bowl appearance over Clemson.

These two teams met in the 1998 Holiday Bowl, with Arizona squeaking out a 23-20 win.

This game will be a defensive showdown, and it starts with Nebraska. Even with Arizona’s number of weapons, all the offense’s eyes will be on Suh, who had 4.5 sacks in the Big 12 Championship. He will get his licks, but the Wildcats need to do whatever it takes to keep him out of the play.

If Arizona’s run defense can hold down Helu, the Wildcats will have neutralized Nebraska’s biggest weapon, giving them a greater chance at winning. This game will come down to defense and turnovers. Don’t tune it for a blowout.

The Prediction : Suh will be the dominant force, but Arizona’s defense will neutralize Nebraska, and they win a slow, defensive battle, 13-10.

The NCAA post-season kicks off December 19th , with 33 games being played in a three week span. Seniors will get their last hurrah, and teams will attempt to end their season on the winning side, in the hopes of improving recruiting that follows afterwords. Music City Bowl, December 27th, 8:30 PM, Nashville, TN

Clemson (8-5) vs. Kentucky (7-5)

About Clemson : After losing three of their first five games, Clemson, behind Coach Dabo Swinney (in his first full year), bounced back, and bounced back big. The Tigers reeled off six straight victories to clinch the ACC Atlantic Division Title. However, they have slipped at the end, losing to rival South Carolina, and against Georgia Tech for the second time in the ACC Championship.

Despite less than stellar rankings, Clemson had a gluttony of weapons on the offense. First was all-everything Senior RB C.J. Spiller. The ACC player of the year had 2512 all purpose yards and 18 touchdowns, even while nursing toe and hip injuries. Secondly was the Freshman QB Kyle Parker. Parker started off slow, allowing teams to get pressure on him and keep Clemson one-dimensional. However, he rebounded, throwing 13 of his 19 touchdowns during the winning streak, including three in a shootout against Miami. His top target was Senior WR Jacoby Ford, who caught 53 balls for 735 yards and five touchdowns.

While the offense, especially Spiller, got all the glory, it was the defense that kept Clemson in the ACC race much of the year. They held opponents to a mere 317.15 yards a game (22nd in NCAA FBS), and allowed a mere 21 points a game (27th in NCAA FBS). Junior S DeAndre McDaniel leads an aggressive defense with 85 tackles, two sacks, eight interceptions (one for touchdown), and a forced fumble. Freshman DB Rashard Hall also had six interceptions, as part of Clemson’s ACC leading 21 interceptions and +7 turnover margin. Clemson will use their aggressive defense in the hopes for turnovers, but even a three and out leaves the punt squad with the decision to kick to Ford or Spiller, who will then come back and lead the offense down the field.

About Kentucky : A 2-0 start was quickly marred by a three game losing streak. The Wildcats did bounce back, winning three in a row late to get to 7-4, before losing a rivalry game to Tennessee to end their regular season.

Kentucky has dealt with a number of injuries, and it starts right at the top. Junior QB Mike Hartline (802 yards, six touchdowns, seven interceptions) was injured in the fifth game of the year. This made way for Freshman QB Morgan Newton. Using his limited knowledge and inexperience, Newton threw for 608 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions while filling in. The real reason for Kentucky’s success however, was the 21st ranked running game (193.25 yards). Junior RB Derrick Locke and Sophomore QB/RB Randall Cobb kept defenses on their toes, while rushing for a combined 1381 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Defensively, the Wildcats probably got the most showcase when they injured UF QB Tim Tebow. But this squad dealt with a ton of problems on its own. Senior DE Jeremy Jarmon was suspended, and Senior All-American CB Trevard Lindley has not been at 100% since the fifth game of the year. Nevertheless, they still held teams to 179.75 passing yards a game (18th in NCAA FBS). Senior LB Sam Maxwell led the team with 81 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and six interceptions (one for touchdown), but will miss the game after undergoing shoulder surgery. The burden of leading the Wildcat defense will fall on Senior LB Micah Johnson (100 tackles) and the now healthy Lindley (29 tackles, one interception).

The Matchup : Clemson is 15-16, riding a three game losing streak during their current six bowl game appearance streak.

Kentucky is 8-5, having won three in a row during a school record four game bowl eligible streak. Both teams kicked off their streak in the 2006 Music City Bowl, which Kentucky won 28-20.

The question of this game is how many yards will Spiller get. He’s fourth in the nation with 192.92 all-purpose yards per game, and Kentucky is 100th in rushing defense (183.17 yards per game). With the injuries and suspensions Kentucky has had to deal with, it’s going to be tough for them to hold down Spiller. Should they find a way, Parker has developed himself quite well, and should be able to find an open Ford downfield.

On the opposite side of the ball, Clemson gives up 150.31 yards a game (69th ), which has Locke and Cobb just licking their lips. Kentucky is mum on who their QB will be, leaving the door open for a Hartline return. Expect Kentucky to run mostly, attempting to neutralize the aggressive Clemson secondary, and eat up precious clock, leaving Spiller and Ford on the bench.

The Prediction : Clemson has the weapons, and snaps the losing streak, 49-21.

Rapid Fire - Penn vs. Stevenson by Martin McNeil Photography

A few weeks ago, Brock Lesnar opted out of his November 20th UFC 106 fight due to illness. While details of the mixed martial arts star's illness remained murky, it was said to be mono.

However, Brock Lesnar's health has made a turn for the worse. One week ago, Brock Lesnar collapsed while he was in Canada. He was rushed to a North Dakota hospital where he has been hospitalized since. While no one will say what, exactly is wrong with the UFC Heavyweight champion, UFC President Dana White provided a grim outlook to his health. White says Brock Lesnar does not have cancer or AIDS; rather it's some kind of intestinal disorder that requires major survey. Dana White is currently trying to get Brock Lesnar transferred to the nearby Mayo Clinic for treatment.

Dana White told TMZ.com, “There's a possibility Lesnar will never fight again.”

Ouch. If that is true, the mixed martial arts world will never be the same. Since joining the MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) in 2007, Brock Lesnar has been a force to be reckoned with and has become one of UFC's biggest draws and most recognizable figures. During his last fight against Frank Mir, Brock Lesnar dominated the fight and in a post-fight conference, trash talked his opponent, causing a stir within the MMA community. Whether or not you like him, he's exciting to watch and MMA world will miss him, should his health force him to cease fighting.

If Lesnar never fights again, what happens to the UFC?
First, UFC will need to find a replacement for Brock Lesnar's next scheduled fight (Jan. 2, 2010) against Shane Carwin. Then, UFC will likely create an interim heavyweight champion, should Lesnar not return to action for a while. If Lesnar never returns to the Octagon, a new heavyweight champion match would be held, crowning a new champion.

Lesnar is one of UFC's biggest names, and without him, UFC will need to do more to keep viewers interested. While there are hundreds of other fighters in the UFC, Brock Lesnar is by far the biggest draw, brings in the most pay-per-view viewers, and sells tickets. UFC's other popular fighters, Georges St. Pierre and Anderson Silva fight only once or twice per year. If Brock Lesnar never fights again, UFC is going to need some very creative marketing with its future matchups. Perhaps getting Chuck Liddel, fresh off ABC's Dancing with the Stars, back in the Octagon?

Brock Lesnar was scheduled to fight Shane Carwin in UFC 108 on Jan. 2, 2010. This was supposed to be one of the biggest UFC fights in 2010. Due to Lesnar's illness, the new headliners are Rashad Evans and Thiago Silva - an event not worth the $45 pay-per-view price tag.

Here's hoping Brock Lesnar has a full recovery. Although details of his illness are ambiguous at best, if it's an intestinal disease, and he needs surgery, Lesnar could be at a huge disadvantage during a fight, should he come back. Opponents will know to hit him where it hurts—the stomach—and could potentially cause more damage to the area.

Get well, Brock Lesnar.

For MMA fans, 2009 offered a number of outlets to watch great mixed martial arts competition.

Although Strikeforce made incredible leaps and bounds during the year, the UFC has to remain the top promotion in the sport.

Whatever the general public thinks of Dana White does not really matter anymore.  The outspoken UFC president has taken the Zuffa owned promotion and put the personal work into it making sure, not only the die-hard fans, but everyone knows what the UFC is and how entertaining it can be.

The sport is where it is at now thanks to the UFC, it’s talented roster of fighters and the people behind the scenes.

It’s difficult to argue against the MMA juggernaut when they were able to put on their 100th show and break over five million in pay-per-view buys in the process. This kind of longevity is not seen everyday in the business.  Just look at what happened to Affliction.

What Dana White labeled “the t-shirt guys” tried to put on shows the quality of the UFC and did so, however, bankruptcy ultimately consumed whatever money they made off of just two events.

Stirkeforce is nibbling at the toes of their promotional counterpart in the sense that they have gone from local show to national giant in the matter of months and are close behind.  The San Jose-based organization may have some great things planned for 2010, but in 2009 they could not produce the combination of content and quality that the UFC has been able to put together.

Fights like BJ Penn vs. Georges St. Pierre II have the epic impact going into fight night where it overshadows any other MMA news coming off the wire.  Only the UFC has the ability to put two of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the same cage. Although they acquired, arguably, the best Heavyweight ever in Fedor Emelianenko, Strikeforce struggles to put their champion, Alistair Overeem, in the same cage as the Russian.

Two champions in one fight versus one champion refusing to compete?  Edge: UFC.

Let’s not consider fighters for a moment.  Let’s take a look at the year as a whole.

The UFC has managed to put together 15 UFC numbered events, three UFC Fight Nights, and two Ultimate Fighter finales.  This consistency is remarkable beyond just MMA.  In a time where the economy is at it’s worst in years, the UFC continues to grow and prosper without a hint of let up.

In other sports, entire teams are filing for bankruptcy.  The Phoenix Coyotes filed Chapter 11 in May due to a lack of income from their product.  That being said, who puts a hockey team in the desert?!  Come on, really?!

With so many events put together in a 12-month span, the UFC solidifies itself as a pinnacle of business success.  Strikeforce will, perhaps one day, produce several quality shows in the span of a year, but it was the UFC that opened every opportunity for spectatorship in ‘09.

Monthly consistency versus here and there enjoyment?  Advantage: UFC

Last, and most certainly not least, the fighters themselves have put in the most physical effort to ensure the UFC stays the top promotion in all of MMA.

As simple as can be, the UFC roster is the most talented in the world.  BJ Penn, Georges St. Pierre, Anderson Silva and a host of others lead the way to mainstream success for the Las Vegas-based promotion.

Anytime these names come up as ones headlining a UFC card, a frenzy begins.  Others, like Lyoto Machida and Shogun Rua, make headlines after a controversial fight in Los Angeles only to make way for one of the most anticipated rematches in the sport’s history.

When you talk of, pound for pound, best in the world, each of the UFC’s five divisions offer at least one candidate.

Not only are all five divisions strong, but the light heavyweight division stands out as beacon weight class in mixed martial arts.  As 2009 has shown us, the light-heavyweight title can change hands in the matter of one fight.

Three champions in one year and it is not because the previous champion was a joke. Forrest Griffin, Rashad Evans then Lyoto Machida; all quality 205-pounders who gained the title and have been beaten up defending it due to the Mariana Trench like depth of the division…The Mariana Trench is the deepest on the planet, for those who didn't catch that.

I mention Lyoto Machida as one who has been beaten up, but never lost the title.  His clash with Shogun was a fight that was etched in all of our minds, and we continue to talk about it to this date, two months post fight.

The recent signing of Dan Henderson added some additional weight to the Strikeforce roster, but it does not put them over the top.  The potential for Strikeforce to make tremendous things happen has not been around since the Fertita brothers purchased the UFC in 2002, but they have yet to carry the division-by-division mojo that the UFC did this year and years prior.

Stacked against each other, division for division, the UFC out-weighs Strikeforce.  Look to see Scott Coker and Co. gain a few pounds of power and muscle in 2010.

The UFC is still the upper echelon of mixed martial arts organizations.  Bottom to top, the promotion stands firm as the leader in revenue, fighters, shows and mainstream success.  This, however, will not slow down the meteoric rise of Strikeforce.  As long as the people behind the scenes are smart with the money and the fighters continue to perform at the rate they have been on, Strikeforce may soon be considered the top dog.

2009 was the beginning of a great rivalry between the UFC and Strikeforce, but Dana and the Fertitas remain on the peak of the MMA promotional mountain.

The UFC officially released the lineup for “UFC 109: Relentless” today, and it follows in the footsteps of UFC 108, with a less than stellar main event.

Unfortunately it doesn't end there, as it moves forward into 2010 as well.

I wrote less than a month ago about the steady decline of UFC 108, from a great card to an average one. At least the UFC had intentions of making that card an interesting event.

Injuries aside, it was on pace to rival many of the UFC's other year-end cards.

The UFC is setting a very bad precedent by offering main events that are not title matches, or at the very least, carry title implications.

UFC 109 will mark the third straight fight for Randy Couture in which he is not fighting for either the light heavyweight or heavyweight championships.

It goes to show you that the higher-ups are willing to go to the well one too many times, as opposed to offering the fans the fights they really want to see.

Up until UFC 102, where he faced and lost to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Couture had been involved in only one not-title fight in his UFC career.

At UFC 109, he will square off against one of the only other fighters in the UFC who was born in the 1960's, former heavyweight champion, Mark Coleman.

UFC 110 will mark the third straight event that is void of a championship bout. At least the main event of that card pits two serious contenders for the heavyweight title, in Nogueira and Cain Velasquez.

Basically from UFC 105 going through to UFC 110, there is a total of one title match, and that takes place at UFC 107, as Diego Sanchez battles the champion, B.J. Penn, for the lightweight crown.

I find it absurd that the UFC is continually asking their fans to shell out over $50 for each pay-per-view, yet they refuse to give their hardworking fans true value for their dollar.

Sometimes a card can get away without a strong anchor, if it has a good supporting cast.

UFC 109 does have some interesting matchups, but they are hardly the type of fights that people have been begging to see.

The co-main event is a rematch between Josh Koscheck and Paulo Thiago.

Being this is only Thiago's fourth career bout with the organization, I don't believe he has earned a place that high up on the card, not many people are paying to watch him fight.

Also on the card is a battle of irrelevant welterweights, as Frank Trigg tangles with Matt Serra. Again, a nice fight, but not one that people will pay to see.

It's really becoming a disturbing trend, the UFC shoves these fights down the fans throats, and instead of spitting it back up, we take it, thus allowing them to get away with it time and time again.

The organization has become complacent, they know at this point in time, there isn't any steady competition.

Strikeforce is lurking, but right now, they aren't scaring Dana White and the Fertitta brothers into making any drastic, yet, necessary changes.

The UFC believes it can hand out whatever they want, and the fans will keep buying it. It is up to us, as a whole, to get them to offer us more quality on their cards.

In 2009, there were 14 UFC events (Not counting TUF Finales or Fight Nights), and only 8 title defenses.

That means only 57 percent of the pay-per-views this year had a title bout on the card.

If you want to get technical, we can say there were only actually 13 pay-per-view cards, as UFC 105 was shown via tape delay on Spike TV.

So now 61.5 percent of all pay-per-views included a fight for a championship. That's crazy.

With the economy in the shape that it's in, everyone is scrimping and saving, trying to stretch every dollar as far as they can. Yet we are being asked by men with millions upon millions of dollars to shell out our hard earned money for at best, an average product.

And we all know injuries do happen, as GSP, Anderson Silva, and Lesnar are currently on the shelf, but you mean to tell me, that there isn't a better main event than Couture-Coleman?

So UFC 109 is called Relentless, and I find that fitting in a way.

The UFC has been relentless in trying to pull the wool over the eyes of their fans for months now.

The hits keep on coming for UFC 108 as former lightweight champ Sean Sherk, a recently tapped replacement for Tyson Griffin, has withdrawn from his UFC 108 main card matchup against Jim Miller after recently suffering a cut above his eye that required stitches, NWI.com and MMA Weekly reported on Thursday.

Duane Ludwig will reportedly return to the UFC to take on Miller at the January 2 event in Las Vegas.

Ludwig (18-9) went 2-0 in previous bouts in the UFC, defeating Genki Sudo by split decision in 2003 and knocking out Jonathan Goulet in just 5-seconds (officially 11-seconds) in 2006, making it the unofficial fastest KO in UFC history. Since ‘06, “Bang” has competed primarily for Strikeforce, where he went 3-4 including back-to-back wins over Sammy Morgan and Yves Edwards in 2008 before losing his most-recent bout to Lyle Beerbohm in June.

Miller (15-2), a one-time IFL fighter who made his UFC debut in 2008, has gone 4-1 in five fights inside the Octagon, losing to 155-pound contender Gray Maynard in March but has most-recently won back-to-back fights over Mac Danzig and Steve Lopez.

UFC 108 is headlined by Rashad Evans vs. Thiago Silva and also features Paul Daley vs. Dustin Hazelett, Joe Lauzon vs. Sam Stout, and Junior Dos Santos vs. Gilbert Yvel, while the event’s Spike TV-televised prelims include Dan Lauzon vs. Cole Miller and Martin Kampmann vs. Jacob Volkmann.

UFC 108 “Evans vs. Silva” is set to take place on January 2, 2010 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Main Card:

Rashad Evans vs. Thiago Silva

Paul Daley vs. Dustin Hazelett

Joe Lauzon vs. Sam Stout

Tyson Griffin vs. Jim Miller

Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion “Suga” Rashad Evans (18-1-1) is set to face off against Thiago Silva (14-1-0). Rashad Evans was originally supposed to face another former champion in Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. However, Rampage Jackson had decided to walk away from the octagon to pursue his acting/movie career. Both Evans' and Silva's only loss came from the current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida.

Paul “Semtex” Daley was scheduled to face former WEC champion Carlos Condit. During training Carlos Condit sustained an injury, and was forced to withdraw from the weight. Stepping in to fill Condit spot is Dustin Hazelett.

Paul Daley's MMA record is 22-8-2 with the majority of his wins coming via knockout. Paul Daley's most recent win was against Martin Kampmann at UFC 103 on September 19, 2009. His opponent Dustin “McLovin” Hazelett has a MMA record 14-4-0. Hazelett is known for his great submission skills with most of his wins coming via submission (arm lock) including his last fight in the UFC against Tamdan McCrory at UFC 91 over a year ago on November 15, 2008.

Former Ultimate Fighter Joe Lauzon is set to square off against Sam “Hands of Stone” Stout. Joe has a MMA record of 17-4-0 with his only recent lost coming from Kenny Florian. Lauzon also has a notable knockout over former UFC fighter Jens Pulver. Sam Stout has had mixed success in his UFC career with a MMA record of 15-5-1. With a nickname of “Hands of Stone” you would think he would more KO/TKO in the octagon, but all of Sam's win in the UFC have come via decision.

Tyson Griffin (14-2-0) faces off against Jim Miller (15-2-0). Tyson Griffin is known for his aggression and vicious ground and pound. Griffin's only two loses came via UFC fighters Sean Sherk, and Frankie Edgar. Tyson Griffin also holds notable wins over Clay Guida, Gleison Tiabu, and Hermes Franca. Griffin's opponent may not have a big name yet but has an impressive record and with a win over Tyson Griffin could easily put him in the mix of an already talented lightweight division.

Under Card: May Not Be Broadcast

Sean Sherk (37-4-1) vs. Rafaello Oliveira (9-2-0)

Cole Miller (15-4-0) vs. Dan Lauzon (12-2-0)

Martin Kampmann (15-3-0) vs. Roy Markham (16-5-0)

Vladimir Matyushenko (23-4-0) vs. Steve Cantwell (7-3-0)

Mark Munoz (6-1-0) vs. Ryan Jensen (15-4-0)

The problem with pastiche of something of that is the best ever example of its kind is that it will always disappoint. In the sense that it won't live up to the original at its best. That is certainly what I have found with Sherlock Holmes pastiche in general, having read several anthologies of such.

So making a reprint anthology and drawing from the huge number overall is probably a better strategy - and also give it an angle so that there is some of more general interest than 'how good a copy is this?' In this case, a fantasy or sf slant to the tales, a lot of the time.

A 3.38 average overall, so a decent book.

Watch Avatar

If Avatar were the most expensive movie of all-time, there might be some responsibility to score the biggest opening-weekend of all time. But, at $240 million, Avatar was not the most expensive movie ever. 2012 ($260 million), Spider-Man 3 ($275 million) and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End ($300 million) all cost more. Heck, thanks to 2012 (remember when Roland Emmerich was known for cheap effects that looked expensive?), it was not even the most expensive non-sequel. But expectations are a dangerous thing, so how much Avatar pulled in this weekend will not matter as much as perception of said numbers. If the press jumps on the 'mere' $73 million opening sprint the way they crucified King Kong's $50 million 3-day and $66 million five-day opening, then the film may forever be considered a disappointment no matter how much it grosses in the end. On the other hand, if the number is looked at in a realistic fashion, then we can all acknowledge that this was a pretty darn-impressive opening weekend for a film with major long-term potential. Let's begin…

The much anticipated and debated (amongst film nerds at least) Avatar debuted this weekend with $77 million. That's the second-biggest December opening in history, behind the $77.25 million debut of Will Smith's I Am Legend. In Avatar's defense, I Am Legend was an hour shorter, had a great tag-line that doubled as an easy-to-understand plot synopsis (”The last man on earth is not alone.”), and had the added buzz of the debuting trailers for The Dark Knight. While Warner Bros. held its non-IMAX Dark Knight trailer off the internet until Sunday night, Paramount did Fox no similar favors, releasing its Iron Man 2 teaser online two days before Avatar's opening day. It's also worth noting that Avatar actually opened on fewer screens than many of the top December openings. On the other hand, Avatar debuted in countless 3D and mini-IMAX screens, which increased the general ticket prices to more than overcome the running-time and screen-count disadvantage. For what it's worth, it beat Up's $68 million opening, taking the record for 3D opening weekends. But Avatar did break one very notable record. It is the biggest debut in history for a completely unaffiliated original movie. By that, I mean it was not a sequel, not a franchise adaptation, not a literary adaptation, and not a star-vehicle. It's also racked up $164 million overseas, for a global total of $241 million.

So far, general word of mouth is strong, with those who didn't go in with months of anticipation and expectations pretty much being blown away by the 3D visuals, photo-real special effects work, and large-scale action spectacle (my parents saw it on opening day and loved it). But long-term predictions would be pure guesswork at this point. If we argue that the Saturday and Sunday snowstorms prevented otherwise interested moviegoers from checking out the picture, then we can either expect stronger than normal weekday sales or inflated second-weekend grosses. We'll know more after its second weekend, when it will attempt to use positive buzz to overcome the sure-fire smash weekend debut of Sherlock Holmes. So I'll just toss out the following math: If Avatar performs like the alleged flop King Kong (4.36x its opening weekend), it can expect to gross $335 million. If it performs like Titanic (it won't but let's do the math anyway), it'll do 20.9x times its opening weekend figure for $1.61 billion in the US. Obviously that isn't going to happen, but I will say that January 2010 seems on paper a lot quieter than January 2009. So it won't likely run into the problem that last year's holiday releases did (Marley and Me, Bedtime Stories, Yes Man, and Seven Pounds), where the usual leggy holiday and post-holiday season got kneecapped by uncommonly popular January releases (Gran Torino, Taken, Paul Blart Mall Cop).

If it needs to be said, Avatar was never, ever going to reach the upper-realms of the opening weekend chart. There has never been a December opening that even topped $80 million, let alone $100 million and beyond. Before this weekend, no completely original and star-less movie had opened north of $68 million (The Day After Tomorrow). Furthermore Avatar had to deal with a brutally negative entertainment press that basically made stuff up to make the movie look doomed ('it cost $500 million!' 'the 3D made our previous audiences sick!'). It was a 2.75 hour movie with no stars and a difficult to explain premise, plus 3D visuals that frankly looked so much better in theaters that the teaser, trailer, and photos were a little underwhelming to the uninformed. Topping off its sea of troubles that would have felt more at home in A Serious Man, we had those brutal snowstorms over the weekend. On the other hand, the 'wow, it's great' surprise factor worked wonders for Jurassic Park, as people like myself had absolutely no idea how good it was going to be until those Thursday advance-night showings on June 10th, 1993. Surprise artistic success is always better for long-term box office than expected brilliance. One thing we learned this weekend, never ever bet against James Cameron.

Before I dash, a bit of non-Avatar news (not much of it out there). Did You Hear About the Morgans? opened with just $6.6 million, so it'll get hammered by It's Complicated next weekend. The Blind Side, at $164 million, is now Sandra Bullock's highest-grossing movie and the biggest sports movie of all time. Plus, by next week at the latest, it will be the second-highest-grossing 'based on a true story' movie in history, behind the relative non-fiction of The Passion of the Christ. The Princess and the Frog dropped 49%, bringing its ten-day total to a somewhat disappointing $44 million. It will need all the holiday cheer that it can muster to cross the $100 million mark. A Christmas Carol dropped 49%, as a result of losing its IMAX and 3D screens to you-know-what. Its total stands at $130.8 million, and Disney is hoping to use the Christmas season to get this one past $150 million. Invictus dropped 51% and now stands at $15 million. Any hopes of grossing more than $35 million will depend on Oscar traction in the next month.

"AVATAR" COUNTDOWN: 1 DAY WRAP-UP

Welcome to Pandora…

James Cameron's "Avatar," after a decade as an elusive dream (or, perhaps, a cinematic equivalent to the Flying Dutchman) is officially here. The film appears to be poised for a $200-million weekend and the reviews are positive — and now the film even has a bit of a political firefight going (look at the comments here at the Hero Complex after a Drudge Report link on Thursday).

Here at the Complex it's been quite a month as we counted down to the film with 30 days of coverage that left us, well, blue in the face, just like a lot of the world's moviegoers will be this weekend. "Avatar" has been billed as a landmark moment in cinema, and by many accounts (including one glowing review by a famous Cameron nemesis in Hollywood) it lives up to the billing. Time will be the true test of the film and its legacy, but right here, right now, the world is turning its eyes to a truly ambitious sci-fi epic and saying, "I see you…" Here's a look back at our coverage of "Avatar," which we covered with more intensity, access and insight than anybody, anywhere.

The trailer for James Cameron's new film “Avatar” has been released online and fans of the film will get their first look at the official trailer. James Cameron previously brought us the mage-blockbuster “Titanic.” His new film “Avatar” will be even bigger than “Titanic.” Yes, it will.

Trailer for “Avatar”

If you absolutely must see the trailer for “Avatar” right now, go directly to Apple's Web site and watch the trailer. You will probably be impressed.

That last sentence is an understatement, of course, because the trailer is absolutely stunning, gorgeous, breathtaking, impressive, spectacular, and unbelievable. It is the best trailer this writer has ever seen in his life. Yes, by far. If the trailer is this good, so clear, crisp and fantastic, there will be long, long lines to the theaters on opening day.

The film opens on December 18, 2009, and is already considered by many to be the leading candidate for Best Picture of 2009.

The movie “Avatar” is likely to become the new standard in filmmaking and James Cameron has likely brought to Planet Earth the greatest film ever created. Read that last sentence again because you heard it here first. Wait and see. Be impressed because it is simply far beyond anything we have ever experienced before in all of the one hundred years of cinema.

What is “Avatar” all about?

Basically the movie is about a paraplegic war veteran who is able to inhabit a new body. He is then transferred to the plant Pandora. According to IMDb, he then has to interact with another species, the Na'vi.

The movie stars Sam Worthington as the war veteran. The film also stars Zoe Saldana, Michelle Rodriguez and Sigourney Weaver.

Watch A Single Man Online

Wearing the colors of his country, Cody Anderson proudly states he is an American and a Christian, here to do charitable work for those in need. His latest mission has him walking for the troops.

When Anderson heard about the soaring suicide rate in active duty soldiers serving in the Middle East, he knew that something could be, had to be, done. Like so many other times, Anderson also knew that charity began with him. In a few short weeks, he planned a walkathon and not just some run-of-the-mill ordinary walkathon. If he was going to walk, people were going to notice and hear his message.

His message: take five minutes to write a soldier a letter of thanks and send them a prepaid phone card. Or as Anderson calls, Operation: SOS.

In previous endeavors, Anderson has walked four days and four nights, with only two four-hour sleep breaks, to raise money for the Leukemia Association. He pulled a covered wagon weighing 200 to 280 pounds for 4,800 miles to assist the American Heart Association.

He has helped deliver $130,000 in Beanie Babies to Iraqi children and personally distributed 7,000 phone cards to soldiers in Kuwait just before Christmas 2006.

Honored by several governmental figures, Anderson holds the keys to 61 cities across the country, has received letters of accommodation from leaders, such as Tony Blair, former Prime Minister of Great Britain and President George W. Bush and has been interviewed for such television shows as 'That's Incredible' and '60 Minutes.' The United States Department of Defense even acknowledges his kindness on their Web site in their press service area. Anderson also finds himself in rare company, having been offered the distinction of becoming an honorary Apache Indian and an honorary Marine.

For nearly three decades, Anderson has been helping people he may never meet and may never know. But he doesn't do it for the fame or the attention, he does it because he cares, because his faith guides him to.

Anderson, having spent a great deal of his life providing comfort for those in need, knows how the soldiers feel. “Suicide does hit close to home,” said Anderson.

While employed at Funcoland Video Game Store as a dual store manager, Anderson was the unfortunate recipient of a brutal attack by a man wanted on four counts of assault. The attack left serious, permanent damage to Anderson's spine, leading to several medical procedures including the insertion of a spinal cord stimulator implant.

Shortly after his attack, Anderson fell into a deep depression, which left him wondering how could he continue his life's passion and his Lord's work if he could not move without pain. With gun in hand, he considered suicide, but by the grace of God, the gun misfired, shooting Anderson in the hand instead of head. He knew then that God had more plans for him.

So when he heard about the increasing rate of suicide among active duty soldiers, he had been in similar shoes. Thinking back on his own dark days, Anderson remarks that if he were a soldier and one person would have sent him a letter of thanks, that letter might give him reason not to continue on with the dark thoughts.

His latest mission has Anderson walking from Capitol building in Blue Ridge to the State Capitol and circling the Capitol until he receives a letter and a $10 phone card for every single man and woman serving in the Middle East currently. Anderson hopes this small effort will help relieve the pain some soldiers feel being so far from home, away from friends and family. Anderson says he is hoping for at least 25,000 letters, but would love to have more than that.
While Anderson attempted to make the walk in July, he was overcome with heat exhaustion and passed out along the side of Highway 515. Since then, Anderson has vowed to continue the fight and is planning to reinstitute the walk from Blue Ridge to Atlanta in the fall, when cooler wether prevails.

Working in coordination with Operation: Give with Paul Holten, Anderson has expanded his local effort to collect letters on a national level. Letters and phone cards may be sent directly to Cody Anderson, 80 Lodge Pole Trail, Mineral Bluff, GA 30559. Individuals may contact Anderson with any questions at 706-633-6321. To donate to Operation: Give, visit their Web site at www.operationgive.org for instructions.

The Lovely Bones Download

The Upcoming Classics: The Best Anticipated Movies of 2009

February:

New York, I Love You:

(February 12th limited)This movie has an all-star cast (Orlando Bloom, Anton Yelchin, Rachel Bilson, Blake Lively are just a few) portraying the love and excitement of America's greatest city. It's a bunch of short films that are connected into one big story line. It's a story that shows we are all connected, by love and just by life.

March:

Watchmen:

(March 6th wide) Are you ready for a new comic book movie? This one is a highly anticipated science fiction movie is finally coming out. It's got the classic story line of a band of superheroes that band together to fight the injustice of the world.

April:

17 Again:

(April 17th wide) Matthew Perry and Zac Efron in the same movie? How ever will the females handle themselves? It's a storyline we have heard before but different. It's about how Matthew Perry gets a second chance to be seventeen, again.

May:

X-men Origins: Wolverine:

(May 1st wide) Ever wonder where that hunk of a wolf came from in the movie X-men came from? Well here is a movie just to answer that question. Hugh Jackman is back to clear a few things up.

Star Trek:

(May 8th wide) I couldn't just write one movie preview because both these movies are going to be amazing! Star trek follows the storyline of the original with a cast that includes Chris Pine and Anton Yelchin. Science Fiction is making a comeback.

June:

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen:

(June 26th wide) I'm not usually one for sequels, but hello, this one sounds absolutely amazing! The original cast is back to save the world! Personally I'm excited to see Shia Labeouf.

July:

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince:

(July 17th wide) Now this was supposed to come out this past November but with the release of Twilight it was pushed to July. Now we get to see Harry finally be with Ginny Weasley.

August:

G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra

(August 7th wide) I guess toys are making a comeback. This movie unlike the previous mentioned Transformers is not a sequel. The trailer just aired during the super bowl and some guys got more excited then for the actual game. Get ready to by the guy version of Barbies.

September:

Nine:

( September 9th wide) Now I'm not saying that an all-star cast makes a movie good, but it sure does help. Daniel Day-Lewis joins Kate Hudson, Pentople Cruz, and Nicole Kidman. It's about a man and his love triangle and how he needs to finish his film. Good luck with that.

October:

Toy Story (Re-released in 3D):

( October 2nd wide) Now I'm sure we've all seen this movie, but I'm sooo excited to see it in 3D the last time this was in theaters I was four, no I get to see it all over again.

November:

New Moon:

(November 20th wide) It's time for the sequel to the blockbuster movie Twilight. It's pretty far away but there is already loads of buzz around this movie. Dakota Fanning has been picked for the role. Vanessa Hudgens has also auditioned for a part. It should be interesting nonetheless. Hopefully there will be better effects this time.

December:

The Lovely Bones:

(December 11th wide) Peter Jackson brings Mark Walhberg for this horror film about a girl that gets killed by a serial killer then either has to protect her family or get revenge. Oh dear, what will she choose?

Avatar 2009 Hindi Dubbed Movie Watch Online

The much anticipated and debated (amongst film nerds at least) Avatar debuted this weekend with $73 million. That's the second-biggest December opening in history, behind the $77 million debut of Will Smith's I Am Legend. But Avatar did break one very notable record. It is the biggest debut in history for a completely unaffiliated original movie. By that, I mean it was not a sequel, not a franchise adaptation, not a literary adaptation, and not a star-vehicle. It's also racked up $159 million overseas, for a global total of $232 million.

So I'll just toss out the following math: If Avatar performs like the alleged flop King Kong (4.36x its opening weekend), it can expect to gross $318 million. If it performs like Titanic (it won't but let's do the math anyway), it'll do 20.9x times its opening weekend figure for $1.53 billion in the US.

Did You Hear About the Morgans? opened with just $7 million, so it'll get hammered by It's Complicated next weekend. The Blind Side, at $164 million, is now Sandra Bullock's highest-grossing movie and the biggest sports movie of all time. Plus, it's the second-highest-grossing 'based on a true story' movie in history, behind the relative non-fiction of The Passion of the Christ. The Princess and the Frog dropped 49%, bringing its ten-day total to a somewhat disappointing $44 million. It will need all the holiday cheer that it can muster to cross the $100 million mark. A Christmas Carol dropped 50%, as a result of losing its IMAX and 3D screens to you-know-what. Its total stands at $130 million, and Disney is hoping to use the Christmas season to get this one past $150 million. Invictus dropped 51% and now stands at $15 million. Any hopes of grossing more than $35 million will depend on Oscar traction in the next month.

Many communities on the web, including message boards, LiveJournal or other blogs, last.fm, and even Associated Content allow you to have an avatar, or an icon. You can search for icons that other people have already made, or you can take pictures of your own, and make them yourself. If you don't know how, well, I'll help. This is a tutorial to make a basic icon using Paint Shop Pro9. If you are using other programs, feel free to follow along, but some steps may be slightly different.

1. Choose Picture. Find your picture. Higher quality picture are better to use when making graphics, so when choosing your avatar picture, keep that in mind and try to use clearer pictures.

2. Crop. Now that you've got your picture chosen, you can crop it using the cropping tool (third button down on the tool pallet). If you do not have the tool pallet open, click view > Toolbars > Tools. When cropping, you want to make sure that you create a perfect square - all sides need to be the same size. When you click the cropping tool, another toolbar will appear at the top. In this, you will see a box that says height, and one that says width. To make sure your boxes are the same size, you can type what size you want each side to be in those two boxes. Also, when cropping, think about what effects you want to use. Often times, a picture where the subject is off center is more interesting than the focus being dead-center. Double click the area you want to crop once you've got the box around what you want to be cropped.

3. Resize. Avatars are generally 100×100 pixels. To resize your picture go to Image > Resize. If you want a border around your avatar, set the sides to Width = 98, Height = 98. If you do not want a border around your avatar, set the sides to Width = 100, Height = 100, and skip to Step 5. Make sure that it is in pixels, and not percent.

4. Add Borders. This is optional. If you'd prefer to not have a border on your icon, resize it to 100×100. Otherwise, click Image > Borders. Click the color box to pick what color you would like. Make sure there is a 1 in each of the number boxes, and then click okay.

5. Finishing touches. You now have a 100×100 avatar. You can play around with the colors, effects, et cetera to make it more of your own work. To add words, simply click the “A” on the tool pallet and type in/play around with different texts.

6. Save. To save, click File > Save As. Put it in a folder, make the name whatever you would like it to be, make sure you have the format you want (.jpg, .gif, etc) and then click save. Upload and enjoy.
